Fireside Chat (Guardians) - Q&A

Q: Brief overview of how this works, please!

ICDR ANSWER:

A: The International Competitive Dancer Registry (ICDR) was built to act as a privacy-compliant layer that supports studios, events, and families. At the center of this system is the danceID: a unique, verified identification number that belongs to the dancer.

Families verify their identity once, ensuring that sensitive data is managed with bank-grade encryption. The danceID then follows the dancer wherever they compete, reducing the need to share and/or manually enter personal details like birthdates repeatedly.

By moving toward a centralized verified identity model, the industry can ensure that media and livestreams are accessed only by verified, legal guardians.

Q: How can I protect from my ex (split household here) or ex-in laws who would get ICDR first before the primary caregiver?

Q: If I have a no contact order on a family member, how can I ensure that they won't be verified and get access to my child's media?

Q: If I verify myself, what stops me from accessing another dancer's media if I know their DOB?

ICDR ANSWER:

A: Through our privacy-compliant ‘Disputed Guardianship & Primary Status Transfer’ and ‘Dual Parenting & Secondary Access Override’ protocols, we ensure that Guardianship is verified and protected. We manually verify the link and transfer the Primary Guardianship status, which includes the guardianship right to provide and revoke consent for a minor's data. Based on FTC guidance, parental rights are not tied to one parent. If a second parent is verified, they must be granted access to the child’s data/media. However, they cannot revoke consent, as that remains the right of the Primary parent who originally provided it.

Q: Where are these ID’s stored?  Canada/US data store.

ICDR ANSWER:

A: ICDR’s data is stored in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and regionally distributed across North America to ensure consistent and stable access.  All data is encrypted at rest and in transit with strict access policies. It’s worth noting that ICDR is actively pursuing a comprehensive data sovereignty policy to ensure our community that their data is housed strictly within their Country.

Q: Does the studio have a part to play in this? Do they have to register too? What if they don’t?

ICDR ANSWER

A: Everyone in the industry plays a part. However, each family that verifies will be able to take advantage of the additional media security with our integrated partners.

The only time that it would potentially create an issue is if the competition or event has stated it is strictly a verified dancers event, such as a nationals or similar premiere level event.

Q: Free is good, but we all know that free isn’t really free. How does ICDR earn dollars to pay for their overhead?

ICDR ANSWER:

A: Our additional features such as participant accident insurance packages will be available on a per dancer basis through ICDR, starting in the fall of 2026.

Q: How can we access the studio owner's chat replay?

ICDR ANSWER:

A: The full replay is available here, on YouTube.

Q: How would this work with Guest Users on accounts?  Would they also have to become ICDR verified to see media and livestreams?  Many are grandparents who are connected to their grandchildren this way and have no other way to see their dances.

ICDR ANSWER:

A: Yes, through a quick verification process, additional Guardians can be authorized for any Dancer, instructions can be found here: How to add another Guardian to a Dancer

Q: What if I have more questions?

ICDR ANSWER:

A: We’re always happy to answer questions. Reach out to support@icdrdance.com any time!
